Founder Feature In FAIRE: How we support other retailers and women in business

Here at Bocu, we’re known for our gift boxes and custom gifting service. But do you know what else we love to do? Support other women in business.

I was honored to be interviewed by one of our favorite wholesale platforms
FAIRE last month to talk more about what this looks like and how we’re not just taking modern gifting to the next level, but we’re also using our business to create community and support as many independent retailers as we can!

So… who do we love to support exactly?

It’s firstly through the brands we’re buying from - we love supporting small, female, minority-owned brands & makers - but we also love supporting other female business owners that have it in their hearts to launch and grow their own product based business.

We’re 100% here for it all.

Bocu started as a passion project side hustle and has scaled to a profitable six-figure business, and I am on a mission to help other women fulfill their product-biz dream of doing the same. Whether it’s turning their hobby into a business or launching a retail store, I love to coach them on specific strategies to drive sales from launch to growth.

If I had to pick one thing that I love most about being in business - when compared to the 15+ years of experience in corporate retail - it’s the connection and community we can foster, not only with our clients and customers but also with other shop owners. There really is nothing like it…

Interestingly, the team at FAIRE asked me what advice I would give to my younger self if I was able… isn’t that just the million-dollar question? I believe wholeheartedly though that so often we get in our own way when we’re inspired or have an idea - often we’re afraid to even try. I told them that’s what I would tell the younger version of me…

just do it.

I would want her to realize that owning a small business, especially one focused on retail, is all about trial and error (something that I’m now constantly telling my coaching clients!) and testing really is the key to success. You have to try to know what is going to resonate with your audience and work for your business… and if you don’t try, you’re never going to know. (I talked about this on the Elevated Visibility Podcast episode 8)

I love to share these insights - and more - with my retail strategy coaching clients… to help them become the business that they want to be, complete with the strong foundation they need to succeed in this industry, business plan, and all. If you would like the support to dig deep into your brand guide and business plan, to make sure you’re set up for long-term success, please reach out to me. You know it’s true when I say, I’d love to support you in any way I can!

… and a huge thank you to the team at FAIRE for spending some time with me and featuring me on their site! You can read their full article and check out the other independent retailers featured here

As always, I’m so very grateful!

Kristin
